Sorare said in a blog post that this solution is a short-term measure. Fantasy Sports Games will continue to develop its long-term roadmap and engage in ongoing regulatory discussions. An alternate method of entry is now available for Sorare’s flagship category, Sorare: Football. This will be expanded to Sorare: MLB on May 26, 2023, followed by Sorare: NBA in the fall.
The decision to implement this alternative entry method stems from the French government’s plan to establish a more comprehensive regulatory framework for the trading of in-game assets. However, the existing framework does not adequately support games such as Sorare, requiring the company’s search for compliance solutions.

A spokesperson for Sorare said this would not affect Sorare’s main game or competition, or the composition of its cards. Thus, the core mechanics and competitive nature of the game of Sorare remain unchanged. The introduction of the alternative entry method is solely to accommodate French players who do not have SoRare NFTs. This allows them to participate in the Sorare tournament.
SoRare NFTs Are Facing Regulation
This alternative entry method opens up access to Sorare for non-NFT owners in France. But it comes with some restrictions. Players using this method must verify their phone number and provide proof of residence.
After meeting these requirements, Sorare will assign players a team of randomly generated non-blockchain cards. It is important to note that users who choose this method will not be able to enter games simultaneously with a team made up of NFT-based cards during the same game week.
Sorare had previously faced pressure from French authorities to modify its rules to comply with gambling regulations in the country. In response, Sorare extended free access to its games in an effort to appease the French gaming authority ANJ.
