‘Fear the Walking Dead’ may cure zombie bites for the last time

Previously, the only way to avoid a zombie bite was to amputate its limb before the infection spread. This happened to both Aaron and Lydia in the main series, and is a staple of most zombie fiction, even outside of The Walking Dead.

Now, Fear the Walking Dead has another proposed “cure,” albeit one that still needed… some kinks worked out.

In this week’s episode, it was revealed that Jun has been researching what is known as the “Blue Jay”. She is running the experiment based on the idea that radiation There is a way to prevent dying from a zombie bite. The research was based on Alicia being bitten, cutting off her hand, but then struggling to fight off the bite for the rest of the season, the longest we’ve seen someone survive a bite. Given Alicia’s exposure to radiation, the theory was born that radiation could be a possible cure.

And the main development is that it… did it work? Kind of The problem that emerged from the experiment was that even if the high dose of radiation did indeed stop the virus infection, it is… a high dose of radiation, so much that it kills the person anyway. In a totally different way. Now there’s a new idea that the result could be some way of protecting children from getting infected in the future. I’m not exactly sure how this works, but my theory would be that a light dose of radiation before you’re infected, when you’re young, may be able to ward off the virus. Or at least everyone has the latent version of the virus where if you die, even if not bitten, you transform anyway. This would at least allow some measure of rebuilding of society in a future generation if every single corpse doesn’t turn into a walker no matter what. But a lot of it is just speculation.

I hold out hope that Fear the Walking Dead can end this final season with something big enough to turn things around for the universe. But even if a temporary cure is found here, it remains to be seen how it will be spread and implemented in the rest of the broken world. The ending of The Walking Dead: World Beyond showed that zombies are evolving themselves in new ways. In Europe, where Daryl is, they have faster zombies now. The ending of The Walking Dead itself introduced the concept of smart zombies, who know how to open doors and wield weapons such as knives, at least in some rudimentary capacity.

I have no real idea where The Walking Dead is going from here. With TWD and Fear ending, it’s breaking into these spin-offs with mainline TWD characters, but it’s a weird place for the universe to end. But the world of lore is changing fast, and we’ll see what that means for all these new shows.
